It’s official, Cowboys is number 1

As the popular saying goes, like mother like daughter, like father like son… like team like Club? Such is the case for the Cowboys Leagues Club, who have followed in the footsteps of World Champion team, the North Queensland Cowboys, and have recently been crowned champions as the Best Club in North QLD at the prestigious 2016 Clubs QLD Awards for Excellence.

The Awards ceremony aims to recognize excellence in Queensland’s club industry, and the Cowboys Leagues Club was proud to receive not only the Best Club in North QLD award, but an abundance of accolades including Best Redevelopment over $1 million in QLD and Best Safety Practices in QLD. In an impressive achievement for a Club outside the metropolitan area, the Club was also a state finalist (top 3 in QLD) for Best Gaming Venue, Best Community Service, Best UBET Wagering Facility and the Young Manager Encouragement Award.

General Manager Clint Williams was extremely proud of the Club’s accomplishments, and recognized the efforts of an entire team of hardworking staff as a major factor in the Club’s success.

“We pride ourselves on offering the best dining, entertainment and recreational venue in North Queensland and these awards provide great recognition for our staff and the job they do every day. Their goal is to always provide our members and guests with exceptional customer service and their passion for excellence e really is something quite special. They truly are what sets us apart from other venues,” Clint confirmed.

The General Manager was also thrilled to accept the Best Safety Practices in QLD award.

“It is certainly a significant achievement to receive perfect scores for food hygiene, venue security, workplace health and safety, corporate governance and regulatory compliance – all of these things we take extremely seriously and are an important part of running a successful Club,” he stated.

Winning the Best Redevelopment over $1 million in QLD award also confirmed that the Club is undoubtedly heading in the right direction after an extensive $6.5 million renovation in 2015, which resulted in an incredible transformation both internally and externally.

Clubs Queensland CEO Doug Flockhart congratulated the Club on their renovation success.

“Cowboys Leagues Club has undergone significant transformation in the last few years with its

renovations and diversification of revenue have helped to future proof the expanding Townsville venue. Through the club’s management, led by 2015 Club Manager of the Year Clint Williams, the club has experienced exponential growth and continues to reinvest in its facilities, infrastructure and community,” Mr Flockhart said.

Anyone could presume that these accomplishments might lead the Club to sit back and reap the rewards of their recent success, but for the Cowboys Leagues Club, their crown as champions is only the beginning. The Club recently purchased 305-311 Flinders Street, a huge 1210sqm property which adjoins the existing venue. This acquisition will allow the Club to expand and provide even more facilities to members, with the expansion planned to include a new café & bar, amenities, additional gaming areas, and add a unique indoor/outdoor kids zone with adjacent dining area for parents.

According to Chairman Dr Daryl Holmes, the idea to expand wasn’t a question of if, but when.

“The acquisition of this adjoining property will help secure the Club’s long term future, allowing us to continue adding facilities and value to our members, and in turn expand our support to the Cowboys Football Club and the wider North Queensland community,” Dr Holmes stated.

Planning for renovations to the new building has already commenced, and works are expected to commence in late 2016 or early 2017. General Manager Clint Williams is keep to explore the new opportunities ahead.

“In addition to the plans we have for the new building, we also have tenancy opportunities for unique businesses to co-locate with us and the likes of The Coffee Club, and be part of North Queensland’s premier dining and entertainment destination,” Clint said.

Whilst 2016 has started with a bang and the future is always a mystery, one thing is certain – the Cowboys Leagues Club will be doing all it can to continue its championship run in 2016 both on and off the field, and live up to its winning namesake.
